Want to Change Your Permalinks?
Long ago. . . in a galaxy far, far away . . .
I learned how to install and configure a Wordpress blog. Now, mind you, this idea of installing and configuring anything was all a foreign language. And Yoda wasn’t there to guide me.
Several months later I learned about the wonderful ways of permalinks and how they add to your search engine optimization or marketing but giving the engines some keywords to sink their robot teeth into.
But my permalink structure was already set. And, if I changed it after several months of uploading data and posts I would lose all backlinking, pingback, trackback and any other “BACK” you could name.
Not to mention that while I would be seeking better search engine fodder I would be giving readers instant access to my 404 page – which wasn’t much to look at (and for some of my sites still isn’t!)
So I was stuck, right?
Yes, I was. Because, remember, that was long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Today, when we forget to customize our permalink structure OR better yet, want to update our older blogs that have history with the Google giant we have an option.
Enter the Permalink Redirect Plugin written by Scott Yang. Although it isn’t as easy as a quick install, the end result is that your links can remain viable. Using the directions he has on his site to edit the .htaccess file on an Apache server you should be able to update your blog’s permalink structure if needed.
