Who’s Your Favorite Bond?
My sister, her husband, my daughter and I all have different favorite Bond characters. We all have our reasons. Sean Connery was a master, great presense, really pulled off the Bond character. And of course, he was first.
Roger Moore was smooth with a just a bit of vulnerability that was enticing – and yet his strength won out each time. Pierce Brosnan had the British posture down pat, he carried the character and was gorgeous to boot. And now Daniel Craig brings mixed reviews from those who think he just CAN’T be Bond, doesn’t pull it off – and there are those who disagree. He’s going to be in the 23rd Bond movie set for release in 2011, his third time.
Underneath the Bond character is a strong, engaging man who loves life, enjoys danger and wants his martini shaken, not stirred. Each actor who plays the part must live the part. He must BECOME Bond. It must be believable for the audience.
Think about it – this is the ONE feature length movie that has spanned over 40 years (first one released in 1962!) and has had SIX different actors play the part and TWENTY TWO different releases. BOND is the brand.
There is no other movie where the audience doesn’t get bored after sequel number 3. The movies are formulaic. The character is consistent. The following is in love. AND this has been over several generations!
