Gmail is Working To Eliminate Spam
In an effort to reduce the amount of spam that their readers are receiving Gmail is making it easier to report the offending posts. With a click of the button you can flag a message as spam – AND – Gmail will submit an unsubscribe request to the sender.
After a reader reports a message as spam they’ll see several options that include: unsubscribe and report as spam; report as spam or cancel.
However, due to the nature of the beast, Gmail is only able to offer this option for ezines and newsletters which are legitimate and have the usual unsubscribe link at the end of the message. Because of the possibility that spammers will send even more spam to the subscriber, Gmail is unwilling to offer the same option for what is ACTUALLY spam.
Before being tempted to pad your ezine numbers with emails that haven’t specifically opted in to your list, or emails that you have harvested from elsewhere on the Net, be aware that being reported as a spammer is becoming easier and easier.
And, once you autoresponder receives enough of these complaints (and it doesn’t require that many!), your account can be suspended or shut down.
