PLR – BUYER BEWARE!
When I started PLR-Health-Wizard over 2 1/2 years ago PLR was just becoming attractive to marketers. It was an incredible way to leverage your time and increase your production. You purchase articles and ebooks that were written by others, made some minor modifications and published them for your own benefit. You claim authorship, claim profits and pretty much claimed everything.
But, then EVERYONE started developing PLR sites, memberships, stores, ebooks, articles, audios and videos. When it started most of the content was viable. But, after only a short time people discovered that they could get articles written for less than $2.00 by ghost writers who didn’t speak English as their primary language and then spin them so they could provide hundreds of “original” articles each month to members.
Today, buyers must be wary of the memberships and content they purchase. The real gold in PLR is the research that goes into the content – so that you don’t have to spend hours at the computer searching for the information you need to write those original articles for ezines, directories, blogs and websites. But, sometimes even the research in these articles is faulty.
When considering PLR there are several things that you should evaluate:
1. Is there a money back guarantee on a membership site? Because of the nature of the beast – you can use the digital products you purchase and memberships add NEW content each month – the guarantee period isn’t usually over 30 days. But there had better be one.
While there will always be tire-kickers who come in, grab what they can and leave, asking for their refund – if the owner/writer of the site isn’t completely confident in the content created then there won’t be a money back guarantee.
2. Are the articles written by writers who speak English as their primary language? Ghost writers can be cheap labor but – you get what you pay for. The intent isn’t to create something cheap but if the writer can’t speak the language it’s incredibly difficult to create quality content.
3. How many articles are delivered each month? You do the math – the owner isn’t in the business of giving away his product. If you are downloading 500 articles a month for $27.00 then you can rest assured there is something fishy going on. Let’s do the math -
500 articles X 9.00 (English speaking ghost writer) = $4500.00
$4500 (cost of articles) / $27.00 (cost of membership) = 166 members to break even
Memberships often deliver more than just the articles which means that costs are even greater and the number of members needed to break even is even higher.
This means that the articles are being circulated to hundreds of people each month which increases the saturation and decreases the value of the content.
4. Does the membership have a cut off point for the number of times the article is circulated? As in number 3 above, the more it is circulated to new buyers the greater the saturation and the lower the value.
5. Can you understand the content you purchase? When articles or ebooks are created by ESL writers or developed through article spinning software without editing the content doesn’t make sense. Adjectives and adverbs are used inappropriately, sentence structure is wrong and improper grammar is rampant.
These are the minimal number points that you must consider before purchasing PLR. Because, while using PLR is incredibly beneficial to the bottom line, if you are completely re-writing all the content you purchase then you aren’t leveraging your time – you’re wasting it.
